Scholarships

Encouraging continued education since 1999

The EQUS Scholarship Program recognizes the academic accomplishments of our member-owners and their children, and assists the students with their post-secondary education pursuits. For 2022, four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to the top applicants. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of an applicant’s accomplishments including academic, non-academic, volunteerism and personal and community endeavours.

Who can apply?
  • Applicants for this scholarship must be residents of Alberta (based on their parent's address).
  • The applicant or at least one parent (or legal guardian) must be a member of EQUS and in good standing at the time of the application.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time, post-secondary or apprenticeship program that is at least two years long.
How are recipients chosen?

Recipients will be chosen by a selection committee and judged on the contents of their completed application. Incomplete packages will not be considered.

How to Apply For EQUS Scholarships

As part of the application process, a completed application form as well as an essay and official transcripts are required. Applicants must also provide two letters of reference from individuals describing the relevant qualities that the applicant displays which makes them a suitable candidate for this award.

Achievements in extracurricular and community activities should be included in your application. The essay must be included on a separate sheet of paper, and should describe the applicant as well as outline their study plans and career goals. It must be typed, double spaced and no longer than 1,000 words.

When do applications need to be submitted?

Applications are accepted from June 1 - August 1 each year. Completed applications and all supporting materials must be received by August 1 to be considered.

All applicants will be notified of the results of their application by September 15 annually.

College Scholarships

EQUS has established scholarships at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Red Deer College, Olds College, and Lethbridge College.

At NAIT, Apprentice Powerline Technicians in their third year can apply for an EQUS Scholarship. Students at Red Deer College in the Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce, or Management Certificate programs can apply for the EQUS Business Rural Community Scholarship. Students in the Olds College Arboriculture program can apply for the EQUS Arboriculture Award. At Lethbridge College students from rural communities can apply for the EQUS Business Administration Award.
