Encouraging continued education since 1999
The EQUS Scholarship Program recognizes the academic accomplishments of the children of member-owners and assists the students with their post-secondary education pursuits. For 2019, four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded, two to the top male applicants and two to the top female applicants. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of an applicant’s accomplishments including academic, non-academic, volunteerism and personal endeavours.
Who can apply?
- Applicants for this scholarship must be residents of Alberta (based on their parent's address);
- At least one parent (or legal guardian) must be a member of EQUS and in good standing at the time of the application; and
- Applicants must be recent high school graduates (graduating in the current year or one year previous to the current academic year), planning to enroll in the first year of a full-time, post-secondary program that is at least two years long.
How are recipients chosen?
Recipients will be chosen by a selection committee and judged on the contents of their completed application. Incomplete packages will not be considered.
How to Apply For EQUS Scholarships
As part of the application process, a completed application form as well as an essay and official transcripts are required. Applicants must also provide two letters of reference from individuals describing the relevant qualities that the applicant displays which makes them a suitable candidate for this award.
Achievements in extracurricular and community activities should be included in your application. The essay must be included on a separate sheet of paper, and should describe the applicant as well as outline their study plans and career goals. It must be typed, double spaced and no longer than 1,000 words.

When do applications need to be submitted?
Annually, the application deadline is August 1 for students planning to enroll in a post-secondary program for September of the same year. Applications received after the deadline cannot be considered.

Post Secondary Scholarships
EQUS has established scholarships at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and Red Deer College. At NAIT, Apprentice Powerline Technicians in their third year can apply for an EQUS scholarship. Students at Red Deer College entering their second year can apply for an EQUS scholarship in the Office Technology program.
All members are free to purchase electricity services through EQUS’ regulated rate tariff or from a retailer of their choice. The delivery of electricity to you is not affected by your choice. If you change who you purchase electricity services from, you will continue receiving electricity from EQUS.
