EQUS provides direct economic benefits to members and their local communities rather than increasing stockholder dividends. By operating under a co-operative business model, we saved member-owners $9.9 million in 2016.
EQUS and other Rural Electrification Associations (REAs) set the benchmark for electricity rates in rural Alberta because they provide electrical distribution services at cost. Since EQUS operates under a not-for-profit, co-operative business model, we focus on delivering safe and reliable service for our members, unlike Investor Owned Utilities whose mandate is to produce stockholder dividends.
Safe and Reliable
Based on recognized industry tracking, EQUS’ system reliability is over 99.9 per cent. Staff are certified industry professionals, who are committed to operating a safe, reliable electrical distribution service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The construction and maintenance of EQUS’ electrical distribution system meets and exceeds all Alberta Electrical Utility Code requirements.
Rural based power experts
EQUS is a 100 per cent Albertan owned and rural based electrical utility co-operative. We operate offices in Innisfail, Claresholm, Bow Island and Onoway, with our Main Office located in Innisfail.
As the rural power experts, our staff will work with you on your project from start to finish to assess your requirements, review the anticipated load profile, provide cost estimates and provide/facilitate the construction and installation to meet your needs. EQUS is committed to meeting your project timelines.
Invested in our community
EQUS has a donation program that endeavours to support organizations who foster the growth and development of youth and/or encourage community development within our Service Area. In addition, we host an annual charity golf tournament and an employee charity committee organizes numerous fundraising events to support charities throughout Alberta.
Dedicated to our member-owners
We are committed to delivering a high level of member service to our 11,800 members. In 2016, our member satisfaction rate was over 95 per cent.
All members are free to purchase electricity services through EQUS’ regulated rate tariff or from a retailer of their choice. The delivery of electricity to you is not affected by your choice. If you change who you purchase electricity services from, you will continue receiving electricity from EQUS. For a current list of retailers you may choose from, visit http://www.ucahelps.alberta.ca or call 310.4822 (toll free in Alberta).
